Archaeolgical remains have been discovered at the entrance to the Old Town of Dubrovnik at Pile Gate!
Winter construction work to pave the bridge area has uncovered the remains of a centuries old watch tower at the old city entrance which, experts speculate is only the tip of the iceberg of what is probably underneath the old town.
The findings nicely compliment the ongoing reserch which is taking place at the same time as the work on the bridge - all began in mid-November 2009 and will be finished by the festival of St. Blaise on the 3rd February. In the meantime, access to and from the old town is via a specially built wooden bridge so upheaval is not too drastic.
