During history people in Konavle region were living from agricultural goods. Among other cultures like vineyards, potatoes and  many others, Konavle citizens were very good in the producing oil from olive trees. Development of olive oil was improved after war periods and majority of citizens invested in their fields in purpose of getting better and more quality oil. 1950s market of olive oil was flooded because of increase production of sunflower oil from other countries. Sunflower oil was less expensive to produce and was easier to buy than producing of olive oil in Dubrovnik region.

Today,  people are starting to renovate their olive trees, because of big demand for this kind of product. Also, olive oil is recognized as a quality product with large usage in medical purposes. Increase of ecological products also showed as a high incentive for citizens of Konavle region to invest in their cultural heritage. Today Konavle region counts approximately about 50 producers of olive oil, and all products from this region are very appreciated  in Croatia and other Balkan countries.

The last olive oil fair was held in Istria where family Mihatovic from Konavle region got a golden medal for olive oil named “Bugaria” as top rated oil on Mediterian Coast for 2009. year. In future we hope there will be more entrepreneurs for agriculture, especially for wine and olive trees. Future will show this type of business is a good investment.
