Description:
Golf is a popular sport in United States and other western countries. Croatian government in 2007 developed a strategy for creating golf courts in Dalmatian coast as well in Slavonia. The big debate was should government allow investitures to buy land by free and then invest in golf facilities. In Konavle region there is a big potential for building golf courts and facilities that can increase number of elite tourists for the whole Dubrovnik area. Near the Gruda there are 500 ha of land which current citizens are not using because of high expensive costs that are needed for any of the projects. Government plans for Konavle are that it has a predicated area for golf court. During 2004 a non minus investiture came to this region to see what opportunities of developing this popular sport in Croatia are, but unfortunately some local political club tried and stopped development of tourists offer. Their main argument was that chemicals that are used for golf court are not good and healthy for the land because there are many vineyards in this area. Political club didn’t succeed in presenting this as a threat to the locals, but at the end investiture left this project because he saw this as potential growth of problems among citizens. Citizens of Konavle region are disappointed because they saw this investment as a good opportunity for their own businesses, and a way of reducing unemployment in the whole region. Development of golf court was perceived as the biggest investment in this area from Domestic war.
